The best kept secret of Haines is the fact that it is home to more than 50 local artists. Galleries and gift shops offer a comprehensive array of work by local artists as well as those from other parts of Alaska. There are approximately 20 galleries and gift shops in Haines and there is a good chance you'll see an artisan at work. In an area rich with their culture, the skills of the Tlingits' wood-carving and jewelry-making still flourish. Select stores and galleries in Haines carry these unique, traditional works of art to take home with you as a keepsake of your Haines experience. Bill McRoberts,  a Professional Photographer, Digital Artist and instructor in Haines, AK.  His favorite photography and digital art is of eagles and bears, making Haines the place to be.  By studying their habits and behavior has helped his ability to photograph them.  He is published in the Northwest Travel Magazine, Holland America Cruise Line's book and the Haines Vacation Planner.  His digital art is displayed in many formats, from Gallery Art to Paintings for individuals, posters and calendars.
